StoneBridge School Honors Military with Liberty Day Observance
CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Since its inception 30 years ago, StoneBridge School has made the celebration of special days a unique part of the educational experience allowing students to live what they learn in the classroom. That tradition continues on Monday, February 15, when the school commemorates Liberty Day by honoring active duty service members and veterans.
Held each year on George Washington’s birthday, Liberty Day includes patriotic music by StoneBridge students and a special candlelight service in which students escort or represent family members who have served in the military. This year’s ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. at StoneBridge’s lower school at 4810 Portsmouth Boulevard in Portsmouth. Col. Matthew Lopez, an Iraqi War veteran and the father of a second grade StoneBridge student, will be the guest speaker.
Immediately following the Liberty Day ceremony, StoneBridge’s fifth grade will present the school’s annual Presidents Wax Museum. Each of the twenty-two students has spent the past semester studying the life, education, career and Christian character of one of the presidents and has prepared period costumes, props and presentation boards. During the museum, students will act as wax statues of their chosen president or his first lady.
