The SBS Band and Middle School and Advanced Chorus cleaned house at the annual Music in the Parks Competition at Busch Gardens, April 30.
After a difficult year of COVID restrictions and last year’s cancellation, the win is a huge boost of encouragement to our community!
“All of the students worked so hard during this challenging year and it shows! I am so incredibly proud of their accomplishments this year! Congratulations SBS band and chorus,” Music teacher Lisa Hurst said.
Here are their results:
- Band: 1st place, excellent rating
- Middle School Chorus: 1st place, superior rating
- Advanced Chorus: 1st place, superior rating, Overall Best Chorus
- Best Vocal soloist: Sarah Busby, 6th grade
The students also won the Esprit de Corps award, essentially a character award for their kindness and show of support toward other schools in the competition.
“Our prayer was that the students would just enjoy the day of fellowship and competition and that they would be a blessing to all who encountered them. Those prayers were answered! Besides cleaning house in the competition, the students had the time and space to reflect on this past year, fearlessly talking about the faithfulness of God while waiting in line at rollercoasters,” Advanced Chorus teacher Christie Wooten said.
“We’re thankful for another reminder of how good, real, and present our God is through the witness and testimony of these students,” she added.
We’re so proud of our young musicians and all they accomplished and look forward to what’s in store for them in the future!
