Winter Sports 2023 Highlights

StoneBridge Athletics enjoyed a strong Winter sports season, as our teams persevered to victories while exemplifying the core character qualities promoted through our SBS Athletics program. Read below for the season’s highlights for each team. You can view more pictures from this season on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

BASKETBALL
Girls Varsity Basketball finished their season qualifying for the VISAA State Tournament for the fourth consecutive year! This is quite an accomplishment that was made possible by hard-played defense, teamwork and determination. We are grateful for the contributions of seniors Danielle and Christina Wright, Faith Goodeyon and Adriana Niculae. The future is bright with plenty of young talent returning.

The Boys Varsity Basketball team finished 3rd in the Metro Conference and qualified for the State Tournament for the first time since 2012! Team-focused play, composure and hard work were catalysts for success. Seniors Clay Topping, Dillon Sears and Zach Carpenter were vital components to this year’s run.

The JJV Girls Basketball team was also Regular Season Co-Champions and Metro Conference JJV Girls Tournament Runner-up. The JJV Boys Gold team also made an appearance in the Metro Conference for the first time in several years

JJV Boys Gold Team and JJV Girls Team.

INDOOR TRACK
Indoor Track
closed their season out with a bang when Senior Tate Frost claimed his 3rd VISAA State title in the 1000m race at the VISAA D1 Indoor Track Championship. The entire team ran and represented the school well all season and at the State meet. Josie Nunziata earned Honorable Mention All-State honors at the VISAA D1 Indoor Track State Championship for her 4th place finish in the 3200m run, while Eve Frost finished 5th in the 1000 and 12th in the 3200. The Girls 4×800 (S Busby, L Nunziata, J Nunziata, and E Frost) finish 6th in the State.

SWIM AND DIVE
StoneBridge brought back Swim and Dive this winter and our athletes did really well. Gabe Nunziata finished 2nd in the VISAA D1 State Championship in the 100m Breaststroke and the 200 IM. Lily Ditman was also the school’s first diver and had a strong showing all season and at States. SBS swimmers medaled at several meets this year!
